With the warm weather of summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to bring some fresh and vibrant decor into your home. From adding bright colours to refreshing your existing décor, here are some easy tips to help you create a summer-ready space that will leave you feeling refreshed and energised.

Declutter & simplify

Winter and spring are adorned with cosy layers. Chunky blankets, soft cushions and fluffy rugs are all great during the colder months, but as summer approaches, it’s time to simplify the décor and minimise layers. Storing away blankets and other bulky soft furnishings will instantly create a fresher look and create room for summery décor.

Bring flowers inside the home

Colourful blooms will evoke feelings of summer and bring a beautiful scent into the home. Bright bouquets of sunflowers, hydrangeas, freesias, roses and lilies all bring a summery feel to a room. A budget friendly way to create a flower arrangement is to use fresh cutting from your garden.

Use a lighter colour palette

Freshen up any room by using a lighter colour palette for decorating and accessorising. Whether it’s changing your wall colour, re-painting furniture in a lighter colour or adding neutral furnishings, a lighter colour palette will create a light, fresh feel for summer.

Bold accent colours

Use bold colours as accents in a room. Cushion covers are an easy way to add brightness and texture to any room. Pick a few colours that capture summer vibes, such as blues, greens, yellows and pinks. You can also play with prints like stripes or flowers to bring even more life into the space. Choose cushion covers that match or complement your existing furniture and wall colours, or mix and match different colours for a bolder look.

Natural textures

When we think of summer, we think of the outdoors. Natural textures and materials are a perfect way to bring the outside inside. Fine wicker baskets, jute rugs and linen furnishings are a great way to achieve this.

Put Together a Gallery Wall

A gallery wall can really bring a room together and is a great way to show off your style. Choose a combination of frames in various sizes, colours, and materials – such as wood, metal and fabric. You can also add depth by layering the frames. Add photos, posters or prints that reflect your hobby or interests.

Add beach themed décor

Nothing evokes feelings of summer more than the beach. Bring the beach to your home with seaside inspired décor. Seascape wall art, seashell décor and beach signs are an easy way to add a coastal theme to any room.

Bring the Outside in with Plants and Greenery

Incorporating plants and greenery into your home décor has several benefits. Not only do they look great, but houseplants can also help to purify the air quality inside your home, as well as combat stress and bring about a calming feel. There are many easy-to-care for plants that will thrive indoors, like rubber trees, snake plants, and ficus trees. Place your plants near light sources or get creative with macrame plant hangers if you’re low on counter space.

Summery scents

Candles, oil burners and diffusers are a great way to add a summery scent to your home. Fragrances like coconut, fresh sea salt, citrus, jasmine and roses all evoke thoughts of summer.

Add Outdoor Rugs and Furniture

An outdoor rug can add a pop of colour and texture to your deck or patio, while comfortable furniture and accessories such as colourful cushions and umbrellas are great additions that will help you make the most of your outdoor living space. Choose pieces that are weatherproof so they’ll last through summer storms. You can also create cosy nooks with hammocks and hanging chairs for added relaxation.

Add outdoor lights to your garden or patio when entertaining. Garden lights add ambience to any outdoor space. Whether it’s a string of lanterns or traditional lamp post, garden lighting is perfect for illuminating pathways and creating an inviting atmosphere all year round.
